Haha

We were at Costco recently, in the diaper aisle. This is what we saw:
Apparently, if you need to buy THAT many diapers and wipes, you're going to need some beer too. I just thought it was an interesting comment on our culture.

This is what I took home for myself, they were handing out samples:

After dinner last night the girls did some watercoloring. Caley thought it was more fun to color her hands, so her art time was quickly over. She, of course, protested and I said "Only babies do that Caley, are you a baby? Babies don't get to do big girl things" while washing her hands. Bill was standing next to us and added, "Caley, if you're a baby you have to wear diapers and sleep in a crib and have a binky. Do you want to do that?"

And she enthusiastically said, "YES!!"

Reverse psychology--FAIL.

Did you know...

that the letters in the word "THANKSGIVING" can spell

Hate your sin, the way God hates sin and loves righteousness. That's a good place to start. If we hate sin like God does, we will begin to understand the magnitude and necessity of Jesus' sacrifice.

Hebrews 1:9 "You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions."

Seriously?

Seriously. Could they have come up with a worse name for this cereal?

At least kids learn early math skills while eating breakfast. (I almost typed breakgast.)

Vocab a la Caley #2

What's this?

Anyone?
Anyone?

According to Caley, it's a "staircastle." Pretty creative eh?

Yearbook Yourself

I found this cool website that lets you put your face (or someone elses face!) on a yearbook photo from the past. It didn't work quite the way I wanted (I look a little freaky) but you get the idea. Or maybe it's just my face that looks freaky...

Here's what I would have looked like in 1974. It's spooky how much this picture looks like my mom's senior picture.
1992 me
And lastly, here's me if I'd graduated in 2000. Wait, that's actually the year I graduated! But this doesn't look anything like my senior year picture. I must have been behind the times.

hello sun, where are you?

This is just great.

Is it any wonder people get depressed around here? We're in the "None zone" so it's not like everyone turns to God during times of need, and we see the sun for like 1% of the time.

I hope the weather gets better soon. I'm sick of wearing sweaters.

Dear Everett Cost Cutter,

I'm not sure what to say, except I just can't quit you. Since I wrote my manifesto (for lack of a better word), touting that I had found someone else and his name was Fred, I have been repeatedly drawn back to you and you have surprised me in more ways that one. You've changed. You're more courteous. You're cleaner. You're more secure and safe. You're comfortable and my kids like you. Fred just didn't have as much as I thought he did. I went there and just got frustrated that I didn't know where things were and it seemed illogical to have certain items in certain places.

But you've changed, and I like those changes. Better brands, better prices, cleaner and more efficient. You are continually working to make yourself better, your employees are always helpful and happy to see me. At Fred's I'm just one of the crowd, and while I occasionally like some anonymity, I like visiting you every week. When I miss a week, I feel like something's really missing from my life. I'm not kidding even just a little bit. When I missed a week and my husband went shopping in my stead, you noticed. You are always kind to my kids, and give them cookies from a new box to help ease the pain of a long shopping trip. That personal attention is better than anything I could get from Playland, as great as it may be.

I know you. I love you. I'm sorry I ever doubted you.

Messy

I'd like to think that if we didn't have kids, our house would be sparkling. But the truth is, I do a pretty good job of contributing to the mess around here.

Example 1:

It was also all over me and I keep finding green splatters in the most random of places. Yay.

Confession

Dear Everett Cost Cutter,

I'm writing to tell you something that's been wearing on my heart for a bit. You have served me and my family well these last 5 years. You always have a smile and you always offer help with the cart and the kids. It's just...there's someone else. His name is Meyer, Fred Meyer. He just does more for me. At Fred's I can buy underwear, towels, and bread. I can buy fresh ground peanut butter and high-quality meat. I can get a cup of Starbucks coffee and stroll around the store in peace because Caley's in Playland for an hour (for free!). You just don't have Playland. You have good prices, but Fred's just has so much more, and I can feel myself being seduced by Mr. Meyer. He just seems to have the whole package.

I promise to visit, I'll keep in touch. Maybe Fred is just a phase, a fling. I'm sorry.

Tell it like it is...

While in Value Village today I found a great book that teaches kids about toileting. It's called "Everyone Poops" and it surprisingly truthful and accurate! I'm all for telling the truth to Caley and this is one way to make the poop conversation a little easier!

What is your emergency?

On Tuesday I called 911 for the first time. The emergency? In a moment of "mommy brain" I locked Caley and my keys in my car while it was running. Thankfully she was not in distress and safely locked in her car seat. I don't think she was even suspicious there was an emergency. So I called 911 and an officer broke into my car for me. Very exciting! Now you can learn from my mistake, if you lock your keys in your car, make sure your kid's in the car too because then you can get it unlocked for free by the cops!
